Anastasia Parmson / AIR

  • 31A Enmore Road Newtown Newtown NSW 2042 Australia (map)

DRAW Space are thrilled to present Anastasia Parmson / AIR.

Occupying the space between May 1-4, Anastasia will be DRAW Space’s first Artist In Residence (AIR), turning the gallery into a studio, and creating an experimental installation using donated cardboard.

At the heart of Anastasia Parmson’s practice lies the line — tracing edges, defining borders, and expanding drawing into immersive, three-dimensional installations. During her residency at DRAW Space, Parmson will experiment with crafting life-size sculptures of everyday domestic objects, such as kitchen appliances, using cardboard and paint. By working with impermanent and found materials, she challenges traditional notions of longevity and value in art, focusing instead on process, immediacy, and ephemerality.

This project invites the local community to participate in the experiment by donating large, clean cardboard boxes or sheets — the artist would especially appreciate TV boxes and similar sizes — which will serve as the building material for the installation. Cardboard donations can be dropped off at DRAW Space before the start of the residency.

Visitors are welcome to peek through the windows at the work in progress and to stop by on Sunday, 4 May when we will open for a final viewing and conversation with the artist.

Parmson’s installation work offers a fresh perspective on contemporary drawing, pushing its boundaries and questioning its possibilities.
